Don't worry your rank is not lost, the gameserver just lost connection to the databases server and now your rank is temporarily stored in a file. When I have enough time I will automate the process of moving those ranks into maindatabase. Please be patient with me

Restoring ranks needs some manual work, currently I try to find a more automated way to do that. Probably your rank is not lost, just be patient

Does your local server show up in the LAN-Tab ?

To open your settings folder you can do this in Finder: Press: ⇧⌘G --> a window will pop up, insert the following Text: ~/Library/Application Support/Teeworlds/ --> Press enter. This will open the folder with you settings-files. If removing those also does not work you could try to set up a local se...

Are you sure your settings.cfg is a plain-text file (you can not do things like make a word bold or italic etc.) ? Textedit got an option to convert the text to plain-text, maybe you need to use that first.
