Recent Attacks
Our server has been getting attacked a lot recently. Actually since last Sunday we have been under attack non-stop, albeit only a low traffic one, that may still be causing lags and will increase our traffic significantly.
Here are the choices I see:
Here are the choices I see:
- No more tournaments and just hope for the attacks to stop
- Try another tournament, since I learned a bit about keeping the impact of these attacks down
- Get another server with DDoS protection. I'm not sure if that would help, it would cost more and the ping would be higher, since it would be located in France. (10 ms more for me)

Re: Recent Attacks
Well the first one wouldnt be too Bad, but too many players Seem to love these tournaments. So you shouldnt do it ( its not even sure if it helps)
Re: Recent Attacks
I propose a fourth option, host tournaments in France only for them, I can help with that.
No really downside to that !

Re: Recent Attacks
Except not everyone can play in France, ping is higher and unusual for most players and your server could not take the players of a tournament CPU-wise.laxa wrote:I propose a fourth option, host tournaments in France only for them, I can help with that.

Re: Recent Attacks
you could add a feature to pause the tournament on all servers so you could pause it when there are laggs. i guess in the last ddnet versions timeout was almost removed so there wouldnt be any problem with that. you could pause the server manually or add votes to pause/unpause the tournament.

Re: Recent Attacks
When the DDoS gets too strong, the servers shut down. Then you timeout anyway.
That happened on GER, RUS, USA, South Africa yesterday.

Re: Recent Attacks
Neither of them. You just need DDoS protection to do anything about that.

How about we get a new IP adress, when attacked?
The server sends the new IP to the clients and they reconnect to the "new" servers?
could that work?

I bet 20€ that deen will say no
Btw i thought about the same solution.
But where do you want to get new ips. And informing the clients and changing to new ip will probably cause interruptions. And if you could get a new ip from server why shouldnt the attackers also. The biggest point against that is: Not everybody is using ddnetclient.
