How to change server configurations

With ddnet it’s possible to change some server configurations with a .cfg-file.
In the newer client versions, you no longer need a separate file for that. Just write the commands in the tab "Server settings" next to the envelopes button.

Here is a compalation of the most common config lines.

Force people to play in teams.

Code: Select all

sv_team 2
Set a restriction to the maximum team size.

Code: Select all

sv_max_team_size x
# x=amount of player
Combine these two commands, to restrict the map for two-player teams only.

Code: Select all

sv_team 2
sv_max_team_size x
Please make your map playable without team and with any team size.
Unless it's required for special types.

Enable the /spec command, the tee completely disappears then when pausing.
It’s widely used to switch weak and strong hook.

Code: Select all

sv_pauseable 1

If you still use an older ddnet client version, copy the command lines in a new text file and save this file as .cfg. The file name has to be name of your map (eg Kobra.map, the config file would be Kobra.cfg). Else just open your map and right it in the section next to the envelopes button.

These configs are also used for tune zones (http://forum.ddnet.tw/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=2418).

Please make your map playable without team and with any team size. I don't like when maps can be played in team only and your map probably gets played less.

Cause deen's comment is bad as it is. It is non-detailed and shows a message like it is universal, but it isn't.
I know what deen wanted to say with his post, but it can be also understood in a wrong a way.

There are kinds of maps wich don't work without team restrictions, e.g. dummy maps. Though this kind of map is extremly popluar and maps like Caventure or Skychase have a lot of finishes. So i wouldn't say that the teams have such a negative influence on the amount of finishes.

Also there are maps with parts wich makes much more fun if you play in a team, cause many parts don't work or are just horrible if 20 tees are going in it at the same time. Ofc there are parts wich can be changed in a way, they would be playable without teams, but there are also parts wich would be destroyed if you change them in that way. So not always it makes more fun playing in team 0.

There are also maps wich are very great without teams, yes. But that doesn't mean, that team restrictions are bad everywhere.

And to finish this:
That Zgokee pointed out the last sentence shows another problem: In my opinion to many mapper just try to get fame with making specific maps. It would be better, i think, if they would look less on the amount of finishes and more on having fun while testing and mapping new, creative and exciting parts.

I usually leave such maps instantly except it's deep freeze map
