This system is so broken. Player look how much points you have and then they decide if they play with you or nah.
I got about 400 points (I don't really know), so I'm on rank 1200.. something like that. There are faggots that started ddrace last week that are rushing novice maps and calling me "noob" for having less points than they have. BROKE

Just ignore points... i didnt even know there were points after someone told me^^ i know im a very good Player and if someone dont wanna play with me cause of points.. well, then i dont wanna play with such assholes :D

I think it Would be fine if we can add this Features.. but I think there is no use in it x)

Just noobs think points = skills, so why you care about that? People like me play hard maps and faily usually in 2. because it is more fun i think and you can get better rank :)
i dont have many points and I dont care about that!! I just love finish hard maps with 2 tee and gain this rank :) and maybe speedrun the best maps for me, like fly maps :))

i am sorry dinner, you wont get that much respect for speedrunning from all players. if you write /points and see 3 lines of information about somebody. nobody would look at it and it would be rather annoying.
ignore people who only look at your points, they are braindamaged :D points don't show the skill

I second that opinions.

If I don't like a map I just play it one time, just to see the map.

(deleting points system would not be a compromise).
What Meliodafu have said is also very important - I, for example, don't care much about time ranks yet, because I'm not good enough. But I like to see what progress I made by looking at my points - they still represent skill indirectly, through experience. And I like playing various maps more than refining my score at one of them, so I focus on playing maps which I haven't finished yet (because it's a new experience, which I'm looking for) and maps I really like (Dusty Road, Angry, Tiny Tandem, Kobra 2, Clarity, Naufrage 2, UpNDown, SorGores 1, &c. :3). And the points system is a good reflection of how many maps I have already explored.
I never treat players with less points than me as worse, because it's very often false - and even if it happen to be true in some cases, I don't think that I should discriminate anybody because he still have to learn a bit. Noobs are players the same way as we are and I'm also a noob, compared to really good players and speedrunners. While we're at it - I think we should add an automessage, saying that tees should remember that everybody had to learn at some point and noobs should be helped instead of yelled at.
Ðíƞƞèř wrote:(...)Think about it, would there honestly be as many finishes on DDNet if points didn't exist? I feel that this disrespects mappers to some extent.
I think that it's a good thing that points encourage tees to finish more maps, that way more maps get recongition they deserve (because people try new maps to get more points). And it's good for the mappers too - some maps, which are really hard (like said Dusty Road and Angry) or well known (like mentioned Tiny Tandem and Kobra 2), are more attractive, because tees want to be in that small group of people who have managed to finish them or want to pass the map everbody vote all the time (so the mappers probably get more acclaim, if everyone know that maps and like to play them). This is also another reason why points still represent skill somehow - some of the maps are really difficult to pass, even with a bad time.

Ðíƞƞèř wrote:I'm not saying I want to remove the points system. I just want to add rank and team rank points alongside of it, so all points can be displayed instead of just completion points.
In my opinion, that's a good solution (alongside with said automessage about respect for the newcomers). I also feel that it's not fair, if the tees who have finished only small amount of maps, but have done so with a record times, don't get any recognition for it.

i have an idea... but without change the points system, if,when we do the command /points [Player] , compare how much map the player has rank 1?

It would be confusing if the server message would show 3 different types of points at once, or even separeted. Many players dont even know the differences between the ranking systems.

I totally agree with you - points dont show your skill, except you got that much points that you need to finish a lot of hard maps to get that amounts.

But what doesn't show skill that much as well is speedrunning. Firstly, because almost nobody plays DDrace maps for ranks. Secondly, because it's not hard to finish with a good time if you tried every part like 50 times :P

Something like a ratio of time and trys (not finishes) would show the skill more appropriate :D Not meaning i want something like this embedded :P

We actually have two ranking systems, that get special handling on the servers instead of just being available on http://ddnet.org/ranks/ :
  • Points for how much DDNet experience someone has (/points)
  • Best team rank (on Team maps) or solo rank (on Solo maps) on each map (in votes)
Because we have so many maps, it wouldn't make much sense to prioritize the old DDmaX system where you get 25 points for each first place and look at the sum of all these points. Mostly the people who just play a lot get into the top. But you can still go through the votes and see who's really good each map and that information is seen a lot, so I think speedrunners are encouraged to run their favorite maps.
