I second that opinions.

If I don't like a map I just play it one time, just to see the map.

(deleting points system would not be a compromise).
What Meliodafu have said is also very important - I, for example, don't care much about time ranks yet, because I'm not good enough. But I like to see what progress I made by looking at my points - they still represent skill indirectly, through experience. And I like playing various maps more than refining my score at one of them, so I focus on playing maps which I haven't finished yet (because it's a new experience, which I'm looking for) and maps I really like (Dusty Road, Angry, Tiny Tandem, Kobra 2, Clarity, Naufrage 2, UpNDown, SorGores 1, &c. :3). And the points system is a good reflection of how many maps I have already explored.
I never treat players with less points than me as worse, because it's very often false - and even if it happen to be true in some cases, I don't think that I should discriminate anybody because he still have to learn a bit. Noobs are players the same way as we are and I'm also a noob, compared to really good players and speedrunners. While we're at it - I think we should add an automessage, saying that tees should remember that everybody had to learn at some point and noobs should be helped instead of yelled at.
Ðíƞƞèř wrote:(...)Think about it, would there honestly be as many finishes on DDNet if points didn't exist? I feel that this disrespects mappers to some extent.
I think that it's a good thing that points encourage tees to finish more maps, that way more maps get recongition they deserve (because people try new maps to get more points). And it's good for the mappers too - some maps, which are really hard (like said Dusty Road and Angry) or well known (like mentioned Tiny Tandem and Kobra 2), are more attractive, because tees want to be in that small group of people who have managed to finish them or want to pass the map everbody vote all the time (so the mappers probably get more acclaim, if everyone know that maps and like to play them). This is also another reason why points still represent skill somehow - some of the maps are really difficult to pass, even with a bad time.
Ðíƞƞèř wrote:I'm not saying I want to remove the points system. I just want to add rank and team rank points alongside of it, so all points can be displayed instead of just completion points.
In my opinion, that's a good solution (alongside with said automessage about respect for the newcomers). I also feel that it's not fair, if the tees who have finished only small amount of maps, but have done so with a record times, don't get any recognition for it.
