I didn't know this was a requirement, but it makes sense to be a bit "known" before applying for moderator position. Maybe you guys should write a merit list that would qualify you for getting a moderator post? This might prevent "unqualified" people (like me, hehe) to apply for a post this big.

I know I am of topic here, I will open a suggestion thread on this feature too :)

Well, it's not really a must-have requirement I guess, but it certainly is better to be around for sometime and so on. This especially apply for playing on the servers, not that much for forum activity.
So, yea maybe a merit list would be good, but then again it would be all just suggestion :o Anyways, I don't want to write much more about any requirements or other moderator related stuff, cause I'm currently not involved in this (and I also dont want to be involved .__.) Better wait for gdin or another community-related user. They are in charge and can decide and help you better I guess :3
