Any kind of work must be paid.

If somebody starts a topic like "help, donate" it takes time anyway. For those of you who has a job, you also have hour cost.
When you are doing something for fun - it has a difference to doing something for duty.

Free-to-play scheme works well. Dota 2, CS:GO and so on.
There is an easy solution -> implement aggregator support, modify forum's php listener, implement in-forum shop for skins. From that point ddnet becomes self-sufficiency. So it allows growth.

Please no. Not any kind of work has to be paid...

I just said my opinion.

Anyway, you can't even eat without money (for life), straight logic.
Yes, you can leave the monetary system but then you will join "forest system" and will compete for food with animals (monads of forest).

Whatever. I accept that position. :)

Within maps, the map's author alias being in it (for example, the 2-star DDmaX map DaFuQ, it advertises that the map was made by ussi) is also an ad.

Sorry I didn't make this clear, but I didn't mean anything as mainstream as that. I mean, it can be, but advertisements are not just in that area. Paid skins doesn't sound bad. It's just freelancing on-demand, though I doubt it will get popular. If someone's willing to pay some money to have someone make a custom skin for them, then that's none of anyone's business. If some of that money can be dedicated to DDNet, then it can help mediate some funding burden.

Either way, maps have huge spaces. I just wanted to suggest one way to use them.

The maker of teeworlds made it open-source and with a permitive license, you think he wanted money? I think this thread is stupid, adding ads in an open-source game will just kill it. Teeworlds/ddnet is unique, keep it as it is.

Go here and find if any of this games have in-game ads(it even sounds stupid): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_o ... ideo_games

You can't live without money, yeah, but that doesn't mean you can't make work for free and enjoy watching how other people are using it.

It doesn't matter. Because money for hosting purposes are necessary. For coding process - unnecessary. It is programmer's choice.

And ddnetwork != teeworlds.

There is nothing bad to have a skin-shop ingame/on forum. For instance, i want to have my own skin. But i can't get what i want. Because there is no opportunity for that option.
I don't have too much time for chatting with an artist for direct skin ordering.

Ofc, IMHO.

If you want to have your own skin, then that's your own ego, why you put a whole game in this?

If you want to donate for the hosting, here you can: https://ddnet.tw/funding/

Already donated.
More opportunities better less opportunities.

Anyway it is a worthless discussion because i will not make the realization of the idea.
