I think adding a Gores server is a good idea, because Gores are visibly different from typical DDRace maps - they aren't solo, like Solo maps (because tees can rescue each other), but they also aren't focused on direct cooperation, like standard DDRace maps (because they don't include parts based on cooperation of separated or differently equipped tees). They should be considered a distinct kind of maps.
I think the most significant and recognisable AiP-Gores map should be both on Oldschool and Gores servers, for the sole reason of it's renown as a typical Oldschool map (of course points should be counted only once for both appereances), but other Gores maps deserve another server. I mostly agree with laxa - it's almost a different game mode, based on DDRace tiles, but using only a limited subset of its features. Of course if there is another one or two "classic" Gores maps, which I probably don't remember or never heard about, they also should be on the Oldschool server, but the rest of them needs their own place.
Gores are definitely good for training, because they are easy in terms of parts difficulty, but challenging in terms of endurance - it's easy to pass ten of their screens, but passing hundred of them may easily result in tiring out and making a mistake. This makes them perfect for acquiring the ability to do some elements automatically and learning to "feel" the typical DDRace maneuvers. It's probably another good reason to create a special server for them.
I agree that there's already a good Gores server, but players from overseas have a high ping on it and it lacks the DDNet points, which are very motivating and rewarding.
Separating most of them (except the few honoured ones) to the another server will also protect current DDNet state from being overwhelmed by Gores maps.
Let's assume we'll instead allow them on all servers and won't separate them. It may seem to be a good solution, but what we'll end up with will probably be:
- a confusion which maps are Gores and which are not (an important thing when choosing a map to vote on);
- players feeling unfair because Gores fans would not be able to get a high rank in their favourite maps category (because the Gores maps will be mixed with standard maps) and a lot of standard maps fans would probably avoid playing Gores maps (because they are focused on endurance rather than skill), therefore losing points;
- standard maps players enraged because somebody voted a Gores map and vice versa.
I guess that sums up my thoughts on this topic - we should make a separate Gores server category, especially because even if we'll make a mistake - it'll be much easier to mix them back to standard maps servers, than to clean up the mess from a hypothetical disaster caused by not separating them.
