For me it is same thing. Bad gamedesign of a map = bad map.
But i'm not against the idea.

If somebody would play it why not?

Any art student here who actually understands my mindset?
what fucking ever, so you guys dont want this kind of server, because of your definition of good map/bad map there is no need for such a server?

I know what you mean Welf (althrough im not a art student)
But make clear what maps you want to have on that server.
So it doesnt end up in "oh this map isnt good so we just put it on Server X"
Its not like mapper should map a brutal map but because it ends up bad you put it on the Server X.
If people want to do a map for that type of server, it should also have the gameplay/story or whatever fits the server for it.

So make clear if you want a trashmapserver, or an adventuremapserver.

Agreed.
I think there are various reasons why a map that is not necessarily bad could be denied a proper release on DDNet. (on top of what has been said before:)

For instance, I have thought about creating practice maps to help new players learn certain mechanics in a focused and controlled environment - however, while this could prove to be an ideal practice environment, it wouldn't (and shouldn't, imo) get released on DDNet due to a lack of various qualities.

Another possible use case would be maps that are simply too short to be released. Possibly maps that were left unfinished but weren't too bad, or maps that explore interesting mechanics but aren't long enough to be a standalone map.

Also, what about maps that had the effort put in, but just didn't turn out that great? Maybe just a little below average, not shit but just not refined enough to warrant a release. This might allow the mapper to gain some experience/feedback in a more permissive environment. The mapper could watch a variety of players on his map and observe how they approach the parts, what they like/dislike etc.

------

As of writing this, I really think this should be a thing. Public testing events for unfinished maps (with a minimum quality/length threshold).

Also Maps like Limbus would be fitting in there.
