Re: Shut down servers?
Don't shutdown ddnet, but reduce amount of servers. Maybe we should delete some servers, because a lot of them are empty, don't know. Definitely not remove DDnet, it will be your baddest move ever ;o
Still DDNet hold ddrace in alive, new features (which you can use or not), new maps ( a lot of good maps).
About moderators, maybe we should do a topic/section where you can report bad behaviour of moderators. Then you'll see who is bad and remove him from squad.
So at the end, we should reduce amount of servers (because now is a lot of empty ) and make topic/section where you can report bad behaviour of moderators.

Re: Shut down servers?
People can come to me directly about moderator behaviour and have done so before. I think these complaints should not be public.Savander wrote:Don't shutdown ddnet, but reduce amount of servers. About empty servers: Which of our servers is empty exactly? The only ones I can think of are the 3 Vanilla CTF servers. Otherwise I usually wait until all servers of a type have players and only then add another server. I actually tried removing a few servers months ago and people came and complained that there were no empty servers for them anymore. If you don't want to see empty servers use the "Has people playing" filter.
We're hosting Savander's zCatch modification with an awesome ranking system. I don't think that's hosted anywhere else. We were actually hosting many more unknown mods before, but I shut them down because people complained about empty servers.kamillentee wrote:I agree with Welf.
Ddnet servers are often better. For example monster, it makes more fun to play on ddnet monster servers then on others.
But I don't know if some mods are really required, like zcatch. There are hundreds of zcatch server.
Maybe ddnet could provide very rarely hosted mods like hunter. Mods they aren't hosted by anyone else.
Something else about not hosting other mods: Some of our servers are sponsored (for example GER, USA, South Africa) and in exchange I run other mods there as well. I guess these servers would go away if I declare that I don't want other mods on the servers anymore.

Re: Shut down servers?
I want to take a little historical look on the situation. Maybe the one or another understands then why we need the servers for other mods.
5,6 Years ago teeworlds started getting public. In Germany many people joint cause the GLL.
There are a always full GLL-server.
From time to time more and more mods were developed. Each good mod got his own community. Some bigger, some smaller.
A few years ago the amount of players decreased. GLL was destroyed. People were getting older and thougt it's just a game for kiddies. So manye people in Europe stopped playing teeworlds or did long breaks.
There was just one mod that survived this: DDrace.
DDrace is still played by many many people, cause it's getting improved all the time. New servers, new players, new maps, new Features and so on.
But: What happened to other mods?
Mods like iCTF, fng, etc. were very popular, but now there are not many players left.
The people who are still playing this mods have no chance to organize bigger communitys, cause they just haven't enough players.
At summer was an iCTF-tournament by Nano-Clan called the "Nano-League" after months of break and where did they play?
Yes on Nano-Servers sponsered by DDNet as you all can see in DDNet-tab!
This people need servers like there. Stable, good ping, maybe DDos-protected if it is needed.
And now you just say deen should remove these servers?
It would be the death sentence for these mods. Not only iCTF. Many mods need these servers to save the last pieces of their communitys.
And to finish this:
I don't understand why some DDrace-player thinks that they should decide about players of other mods. If people from other mods hosted by DDNet have problems with the servers they can say it here, they don't need other people, who are acting like a lawyer for them.

Re: Shut down servers?
I guess there are 2 reasons why noone plays on the servers(speaking for high level vanilla): they are rather unknown and the votings could need some updated.deen wrote: About empty servers: Which of our servers is empty exactly? The only ones I can think of are the 3 Vanilla CTF servers.
Scorelimit 500 is uncommon, you can't play 6vs6 or games with more players, usually powerups are disabled, could need some more custom maps, other ctf server(AEON/[EVIL]) have more features (lock/swap/shuffle,), ...

Re: Shut down servers?
I think we shoulddelete some mods. Example: blockz.
But the problem is this: First nobody played blockz but when it became a server of DDNET all enjoied it. So, if we shutdown some mods all players wll never play them again.

Re: Shut down servers?
Well, I just set them up as a showcase for the beautiful remaps by Saavik and Kintaro. If you or anyone else feels like improving them, give me the configs that are needed.BeaR wrote:I guess there are 2 reasons why noone plays on the servers(speaking for high level vanilla): they are rather unknown and the votings could need some updated.deen wrote: About empty servers: Which of our servers is empty exactly? That's one of the few actively developed mods, it's based on DDNet and people in Chile really enjoyed it. (We only run a blockz server in Chile)Ñı©Ø wrote:I think we shoulddelete some mods. Example: blockz.

Re: Shut down servers?
Just wanted to mention:
You were thinking only me and Shorefire said something about other mods?
Who expected 11! votes for "All mods other than DDNet (zCatch, BLOCK, ...)" (I didn't vote for anything)?
These people were just quiet and it looked like just us 2 have this problem. And you were talking like that.
