yup, and maybe just make servers for teerace and use their rankings and just give it the ddnet label? That would solve the points issue... But I'm not sure what exactly is planned

Imo we are talking for nothing, at the end, deen will do what he thinks is better, anyway, he didn't posted here their opinion...

I guess adding a separate ranking system just for the race servers would be too much work. Deen shouldn't be forced to create that for our 10-20 active racers on DDNet, who really try to race for times, not for points.

But I dont see a point against adding short maps on these servers. In my opinion an appropriate ranking for a short racemap is 0/5 stars, so nobody should get points just for finishing. Most of these maps can get finished without skill. Unfortunately this would just be completely against the DDNet philosophy.

Its not realistic to think that there will just be 10 short maps as well. After one week the next topic in forum would be "Add more short maps" including the next big discussion.

Even getting one point for each 5-second-racemap would be nonsense. Yes, its not a big part of the huge amount of points you can get, but with each point for a short racemap the point-inflation increases.

Not releasing those maps is just the most sensible and easiest way. I dont think DDnet - Race could be an appropriate substitution for the more famous race servers anyway. Many things would need to get changed. Luckily its still possible to play this maps on other servers, where they are established and famous

It's because I accidentally added a short map temporarily and wanted to check if 0 stars works. Now the only 0 star map is Flappy Bird.

So it is okay to increase the point-inflation with adding a server - no, a mod - wich is used by "10-20 active racers on DDNet", out of hundreds of active players, with dozens of maps, but adding a few shortruns wich give 1 point per map can't be done, cause it would increase the point-inflation?

Actually the most people just go on the Race server, catch the points and go away. If it wouldn't be in DDNet's point system, they wouldn't even do this and farm the points on other servers - and that is the thing messing up the point system. That is one of the reasons why some people were against adding the Race server to the point system, but unfortunately it was done and that even after the DDmaX server showed what will happen.
On DDmaX most people only farmed the points, the leaderboards crashed even more. The difference here is that you can argue that it is still DDrace and teamplay and so, but Race is just another mod.

Having a different mod in the point system, is like adding zCatch, Block, and further mods, but anyway, since that mistake was done again and won't be changed, you could at least keep beeing straight and consequent.

But the best thing would be to stop that project for 10-20 people, add a few good maps (long and short) to the Solo server and keep that topic closed, since that server is just used for farming points, while almost no one cares about the mod/maps.

I can just agree with you, hi_leute_gll. The servers don't fit in our ranking system, but creating a different one for those 22 maps in nonsense as well. It should just give ddracers the possibility to try this mod as well. I don't like racing as well, but I finish those maps so that these 200 points I would miss don't "fake" the ranking system.

"farming points" - if somebody only plays to finish a map, it must be, because he is farming points?
even on ddmax people preffered to play new maps/maps they didn`t finish yet. for me "farming points" sounds negative, we should replace it with "playing for finish" (and not with "only playing for finish").
It is a cool feeling to finish a map like run_get50 i don*t think that people played it only for points

The race server and the ddmax didn`t mess up the point system, because points are only rewards for playing, they are not there to show a skill level or something like that. There is not a big difference between playing a map on ddnet ddmax or playing on ddnet moderate/novice/brutal/solo/race/oldschool. So you get a similar reward for it.

Ofcourse the rank points got bugged, because nobody can speedrun 6 maps on 1 day, there are also rarely finished maps, which are never speedrunned, ranks on these maps don`t show the speedrun skills of anybody, but these are still in the ranking system.
It is not really possible to balance the rank points, unless you limit the maps in the ranking system.



now my opinion about short races:
maps on ddnet are mostly there to get finished and then feel good, because you showed your skills and finished something, on short races you completely loose this feeling, finishing a short run has nothing to do with skill or fun, so for me short races don`t fit to ddnet and shouldn`t get released. since many people want short races, i am fine if there will be short races, but since we don`t have many speedracers at all, i don`t think that many people will play there.
