Hi DDNet community.

We've released 22 race maps already. Currently aaa has been selecting, fixing and preparing the race map releases. I think it's time to decide whether we want to stop releasing race maps here or keep going and release the 80 more maps. If we stop releasing, they'd be moved into a category on the solo server, so no ranks are lost. Some of my thoughts on the matter:

Pro Release:

• More to play, doesn't hurt anyone who doesn't want to play them
• 80 more maps have been selected already
• They're still more popular on DDNet than on other Race servers
• These maps are TW/DDNet history, similar to DDmaX, and should be kept online

Contra Release:

• They are not that popular, only few players and even fewer speed runners
• We already have a few really good Race maps, now people around the world can at least play these 22
• We should focus more on DDRace and not so much on other mods
• Lots of work to release them, no one really happy to do it

Personally I don't mind either way, since I'm not a Race player and don't feel hurt by having Race maps around. Opinions welcome!

Maybe do a mix:

- Add the best Race maps to the Solo server.
- Having 1-2 servers per region with the rest of them, but w/o points.

Nah, I don't want to maintain servers with ranks outside of DDNet's system. It's too much work, might require more expensive servers and would cause confusion among players.

The servers could run on a real Race mod, maps could be released faster, people all over the world can play them and still the best ones will get attention on DDNet Solo and there won't be any need to discuss about topics like points for shortruns.

Real Race mod is inferior and hasn't been maintained for years. It would be more complicated to put the ranks on website. If we don't put them on website, we're just another regular race server. Confusion because some maps of the same mod give points and official DDNet ranks, others don't. And just because I did some work in the past (zCatch, Block, ...) doesn't mean I'm obligated to keep working new, similar things.

In my personal opinion we should stop releasing more race maps on DDNet. You're right that not many players are interested in playing them and the amount of players who really run them is very little. As I heard and saw the real race-players only complain about our chosen maps anyway. The race servers will never be a substitution for the different race servers, where the active racers play, anyway.

These servers were meant to give players from all countries the possibility to play race maps as well, to show them this mod (if I followed all discussion properly). But as I saw the reception was quite negative.

All in all the aim we followed got reached, adding all favorite race maps would be weird for me because I think we should be famous for ddrace maps as DDNet, not trying to get the race community on our servers as well. This may be influenced by my personal estimates. I dont enjoy racing, like the majority of DDNet, but they bring easy points...

Players who want to have many points will be forced to play them as well, even if it's a DDrace server... I guess all in all this maps would bring like 1000 points, you'd catch up to many ddracers just by playing race.

These were not the main aspects, I just wanted to add them, in general I'm against adding more race maps on DDNet.

Pro : It trains grenade skills.
Contra : I dont run them, just end them(and not only for points).

Not sure you should keep releasing.

I am not a racer but I like long hard race maps. So if these 80 maps need more than 5 seconds to finish (roughly), then release them!
