In this tutorial you set up your own lan server to test a map.
You will need the official ddnet client (http://ddnet.org/downloads) to follow the instructions.

Open DDNet folder, and open file called autoexec_server.cfg with a text editor. The most important settings are already written there with a short explanation. Rcon password is for logging in on your server and allowing you to use some useful comands. It doesn't have to be "rcon", you can choose your own password.

Save the changes and start "DDNet-Server.exe". Then start DDNet.

Take a look on this picture and try to do exactly what I did. Don't forget to untick filters and also choose "LAN" instead of "Internet".

If you want to log in, press "F2" and write your password - in my case "rcon".
You have now acess to some useful testing commands:
  • reload - reloads map after saved changes
  • change_map "map name" - changes map
  • super - gives you powers (no freeze, kill won't kill you...) // unsuper - deactivates super
All server commands http://ddnet.org/settingscommands/

And that’s it, now you can test any map.

In my opinion the autoexe.cfg is really confusing. In reality you only need like 5 commands, the rest can be deleted.

Also - in F2 - totele [number] and totelecp [number] is very important

agree with imp, even if there are explanations, they wont know the meaning of "#", so this amount of text is rather confusing if you open it up at the first time (without any help/tutorial/knowledge)

So what about a mode that the test server does not need any cfg because of some standard values. A mode where just running the executable is needed and thats it. You run the binary and you will get a prompt where you will be asked for a password and then the server is running. If one does not want to type in a password by every server starting he just learn to use a config.

From original autoexec_server.cfg:
# Everything following a # is considered a comment and ignored by the server.
And I don't really think that the text is confusing or that there is needed any knowledge, since everything is explained in clear way

Previous autoexec.cfg had only like 5 lines of code, so that's what you could call such mode.

All default values are set in the code, in the autoexec_server.cfg are added just the most used/useful commands to show that there are is possibility to edit the way server runs without reading whole page on ddnet.org
Nobody is forced to read or edit every single of them, the most-important-of-all-times are on very top - in first 30 lines

It's just that all the information in the autoexe.cfg is relevant for maybe 5% of people. For me it was rather annoying to read though it so I didn't delete important stuff accidently

no, log over F2, and write: change_map "map_name"
