This is my own opinion, might be a bit off-topic but:

I think more novice maps aren't needed at all, or at least as same frequency as brutal, simply because with already 100-200 novice maps that you have, are enough for the player to make the transition to moderate. On moderate some players usually stay there for a lot longer, and if they someday have the idea to try a brutal map, they will "feel" the brutal, and play only those. (I don't say they will stop playing mod maps). There is also the factor that if you don't take in mind the difficulty, you can make more original maps, simply because you don't have to care about difficulty at all. Since this game is so old, and ddrace "also" making new original maps it's harder, so for example a original part now would be a combination of weird trick flys with a hammer hit blabla, and that requires skill.

Have fun.

Agree with Ryozuki. Then I was noob and just discovered DDNet, I tried to finish every novice map to get experience and move to mod/ddmax maps. It was enough novice maps to learn basics of the game.

I must say I don't think we should stop creating novice maps. I really enjoy an easy map once in a while.

Maybe the problem with novice maps is not their difficulty but their style of play.
Make maps that are easy enough for a novice but with fast paced parts which would still be interesting for experienced players to speedrun.
Possibly include parts that can be done faster by experienced players (tricky skips).

Novice to me feels like 2 player race maps instead of just a training ground for new players.

We have alot of novice map, but not really that many good classic maps to learn playing ddrace (there are alot of old, rather annoying, maps for beginners :/)

Another advantage of novice is, that these maps are the best at attracting new/unexperienced servers, so a full novice server is good for ddnet.
