You can use gimp for editing and creating skins and mapres. But ideally you want to use an vector-based program.
There are free alternatives like Inkscape. So if you really want to get into this, better start off with the right program right away :)
That doesnt mean, that I want to critque you Matrose, I really like your skins and you are efficent with gimp ! :3
Thats more like an early advice for 2fame4you .__.
