Amateur in what?
If someone can't map, he can try this haha
It's always just animation and delay (so I can use the same animation for few images). You have to understand Envelopes and Color/Pos TO, you must know that images rotate around their green point. I oooften use Grid, 2 times Info.
You need some math to calculate things (how many degrees you should rotate; when to start next animation...) and from time to time look if everything works good ^^ I always have some paper here to write important numbers on it, draw something, calculate :P
And if you make something 'geometric', let's say this last gif: 24*2 circles, I had to set delay 0,5s for every ball. It's stupid long boring work.
There are always more ways to do it so if it works but you didn't make it like I would, it's ok.
Some creativity and logical thinking is also good ^^ You can copy background few times if you need to cover something, if you need that something appears suddenly - you can use Color Envelope (first it's transparent A:0, and suddenly you can see it A:255) or Position Envelope (first it's somewhere away so you don't see it on your screen X:374537 and then it's in the middle of your screen X:0)
Don't think that I just sit down and start to do it, without big fails and small mistakes, everything works great, every animation has perfect timing and that I just know how to do it after looking 10sec on the gif and I just hit Anim button at end and enjoy it. No. I have to think short, analyze how they move and change color, where they are, count it, try, test. ^^
It's so much fun.
I learned and understood Envelopes in 1 day long time ago. I just moved the points and saw what happens. I made few simple elements with it in that long time and then I started this topic and TESTs :P I learned few things from Kintaro because I saw him using something about what I didn't know ^^ Few months ago I made my first sun haha. I did almost nothing before this here, don't think that I have so much experience.
I also don't make maps, but I know every game tile, every button, I understand how everything works. That's the key. To understand it and know what's possible.

Wow, I'm speechless :o The third loading screen is amazing, it's like perfection :3 Somehow you are right, it's not that hard to achieve something like that if you have enough time and a basic understanding on how the whole mapping thing with the envelopes works. But nevertheless your maps (or should I say your graphical experiments) are outstanding. I'm curious to see the fourth loading screen because although I think I still love the first TEST the most (so psychodelic, you know) you get better and better with each new map (if that is even possbile now).
Keep it up, we love you Saavik :3

TEST4

It took me 9,5h to do this. 3 days and nights. 23 Images, 11 Envelopes. And only 1 minute of fun and enjoying it ^^
If you want to see the pictures, delete all Envelopes and hide other layers/gropus.
My first idea was to do opposites. And I started: day - night, colorful vs. monochrome, I wanted to do rain and snow.
Buuut then I started to make random stuff :D
I spend some time on doing these 4 images with 4 tilesets. I like it ^^
Setting Color TO on the 81 squares that uncover the logo was terrible. Counting it as well.
I made the red/green circles first try! I didn't need to fix timing. Yay. Power of math.
Watching this over and over again was so boring haha.

I wish I could do TEST6 exactly how I imagine it, but I don't know if I'm talented enough for it :( At most it will be just ugly.

Hey guys,
do you know dm1?
pretty boring, huh?

I just felt so creative last days. I worked on this map 2 days, about 8-9 hours. I didn't know what to make with walls so I left them so simple. Sorry.
For more experiences run it on a DM server (or vote it on a Vanilla DDNet server) and collect things.

Because of Welf (he didn't know) I had the idea to use images I find in ddnet folder. I don't mean in Mapres. I mean things like emoticons.png, cursor.png, game.png, particles.png, blah blah. I just put them all in editor, look at it and think, think how to use it. At end I had to remove not used parts because map was huge (803 KiB :o). As always every layer and envelope have their names. The background is exactly what you see in console (F1 F2). I made some fancy things with generic_unhookable. I like how it looks.

So what's animated?
Clouds are rotating, you can find all 16 emoticons on the map, the reticles(?) symbolize your hand shaking while aiming ^^, the sun is glowing smooth.
The best thing that took me few hours to make are shadows behind hearts, shields and weapons after you take them:
Left to me. Right you can see grenade.

Oh I had to calculate, test, fix, think, look at it so much. Everything was so wrong.

Here how I made the background (Grid!):

I quite like your design, particularly the green background and the idea of adding in the emoticons/cursors.

A few criticisms from someone that actually does play dm1 seriously. First the extra ground around the real ground tiles, although it looks nice, is annoying to play with. I would prefer all ground to be actually ground or more faded. The tiny blocks should also be a bit more faded. The ninja sword shouldn't have an outline as no pros play with it on.

Some suggestions:? Make the clouds move more, make the sun change in intensity, make the emotes higher off the ground.

I know you didn't meant this to be so serious, so, good job!
