Big Bug O.O

Post by SadlyIGotAIDS »

I was trying to play some novice maps cause im a massive noob and after going a small distance in certain maps (Kobra and Shadow for example) the game just completely bugs out. Can't move anymore and the screen is shaking and i have to restart. Brutal maps like Grandma are fine however. Is this bug?

Never heard about this issue, on official servers? Try another server location.

I got the same issues on a lot of gores maps for the last couple of weeks (kog gores server) i previously ran through without any problems.
Tried to swap ddnet mapres to 0.7 folder and delete/download the maps i get issues on.
Looking at the map in ddnet editor i dont see any entity that would cause that problem - note: it always occurs on the same spot
For example right here:

I'm using the latest 0.7.5 Vanilla Client.

#edit:
got the same issues OP has on those ddrace maps aswell, server location doesnt matter

Any firewall software you use that could be doing Deep Packet Inspection and thus be blocking some packets?

No I'm not using any firewall software besides Windows Defender and in there I haven't changed anything

When this bug occurs my tee is for some reason still on the server - on some maps im connecting to the server but i dont see the map = D

Doesn't happen when you run the map on a local server, right? I'm not sure how best to debug where the packets get lost.

Can't test that because i dont have the translation server executable

using the 0.7 local standard vanilla server i can load onto the maps and run the parts i previously got stuck on

You can get the DDNet server on https://ddnet.org/downloads/ and convert the map by dragging it into map_convert07.exe

Alright, then it's not a bug in client or server, but actually some part in the network inbetween blocking/corrupting packets.

One idea would be to use wireshark to monitor the packets on your side, and asking the server hoster (Avolicious for KoG) to use tcpdump on the server, and then to compare what is getting lost.

Edit: This is assuming KoG server is up to date, there was a fix about snapshots recently, maybe it's not live on KoG servers yet? There is also a discussion on DDNet Discord in #bugs.
