Is it possible to buy a server and host a public server on it in ddrace?

If you want it to count as an official server with official ranks, no.

If you want to run your own server with your own maps etc, yes. The source code is on github: https://github.com/ddnet/ddnet

You can just download the server on https://ddnet.org/downloads/, it's the DDNet-Server next to DDNet. If you want to compile yourself, there are instructions in the github readme file.

Alternatively you can rent a VPS and host the server there. But you'll have to search for some tutorials or ask on Discord for help, I can't help you with setting that up.
