Add more Race maps or stop here?

Well, I'm a little bit surprised to see this vote here :o
The race server is still new and you already want to shut it down, something went wrong here..

First of all, I understand that there might be some difficulties. It could have been all managed better right from the beginning.. I'm sry about that, but these problems do not justify this vote.
The race server should definitely stay and the remaining maps (maybe even more) should be added.

So, I think there are many advantages and gladly many of the following reasons are not only my personal opinion.
Let's start with obvious things. The race server is something 'new' and different, a good alternative to the current ddrace. We should definitely keep other modifications and therefore the variance alive.
You know, lately I kinda lost the motivation to play longer ddrace maps. When I start playing teeworlds, it mostly takes some time, because I don't want to suddenly leave. Once in a good team, you don't want to disappoint the others, so you play for at least a hour. This does not mean in any circumstance that I don't enjoy the played time. However, with race the whole story is totally different. I can just play whenever I have time, try to get a good rank on a shorter map or play a longer one and just safe after trying for another half an hour.
Maybe it's just me but I really like the servers. It's just the right thing I needed at the moment. Oh, and you simply have to agree: It's a great feeling to finally reach the top10 on run_button or eventually finish a hard map like run_keksi after 100+ mins of trying.
I'm sure many people think similiar.
The race server is also a perfect training for many ddrace solo parts. You never know where you might need the grenade or hook moves from these maps.

But this is not just a text about how good the race server is. So let's focus on some of your concerns.
One important fact, should be clearified right at the beginning. The currently released maps are not the best. Even some good racers dislike them. But that doesn't mean, all race maps are like that or even worse. There are many great race maps yet to come. The current selection is by far not all, and there are still many awesome maps among the eighty unreleased ones.
Nevertheless I also heard from quite a few players that they already like the current maps. Especially run_long_for_popo or run_button seem fairly popular and many people enjoy playing these maps.
So, stop releasing maps would be the wrong choice. Of course we could play race on some other servers, the WAR and AE servers are still runnig.. But they are not perfect either. We wanted to create a collection of all good race maps, gathered in one server without huge bugs or other annyoing things. Right now they are widely scattered and some of them are not even hosted anymore. It would be sad to just lose them.

And the last important point I want to mention is our work. It would be sad to just throw away all the stuff we did for this server. Me and many others invested quite a few times, selecting and sorting maps from all over the place. It's not perfectly executed and it still needs some work, but we all wasted many hours in preparing all this. So, if we don't have the possibility to maintain this server right now, just pause it for a few days. Early August I finally have some free days, then I can take care about the server again.

Oh, and about the endless discussion about points. This should never be the reason to stop. You just added the support for zero-point maps, so just reward all race maps with zero then. That might be not the smartest solution, but there would be no longer discussions about a destroyed leaderboard or any other interferes with ddrace in general. Additionally we could still see the ranks on the website.

Right now, all the mentioned contras in the startpost are somehow invalid for me. The point system should not be a problem, milk should be happy (all remaining maps are longer than five seconds) and even shortruns could be added someday if the majority wants them.

Well whatever, I just hope the race server can stay ! :D

I told you guys from the start (7 months ago) that I just want a few maps to test how the race server runs and then see whether to continue it or move the maps to the solo server: http://forum.ddnet.org/viewtopic.php?p=7177#p7177
So I don't know why you're surprised now, this was the plan from the start. Why you instead decided to collect 100 maps immediately, I never understood.

Index you speak like out of my soul, but the organisation seemed to be a problem since start.Like you said, you didnt released the best ones yet .
Maybe you should release like 50% of them before the others, so people get attention to the race servers.
You released some good maps already like:
run_get50
run_button
run_skizzpopo
run_pink.lila
and most of them got played a lot in fact that we started the server 10 days ago.

I voted for the release of the other maps. I enjoy racing longer maps (30s to long races) and I also enjoy seeing people play the map on ddnet. The maps were already there but nobody played them and now they are getting played. Maybe filter even more about what you add because some really lack in playability. So you could reduce the maps to release and only select the top notch ones. This would make the huge pile of work a bit smaller.

Welf once showed me a list with all the maps on teamspeak, we could somehow copy/paste the list into a poll(not much work, because every new line is a new option) and everyone can vote like XX maps and the first XX Maps are taken.

imo it would be complicated to make a poll in forum (you really think that enough people will take a look at all the maps and then vote?)

Well...all that you get on the Solo server, short/long maps, easy/hard maps, gores, fly, race and so on. So for what you need a whole additional server? You could play the best Race maps also on Solo.

Well...your organisation is contradicting to the plan, so it shouldn't wonder that such stuff happen. If you would firstly bring some more good maps, it would be easier to know, if the people like them. Also if you say that many aren't really good, i'm again wondering for what you need a whole additional server?

Then you could try to talk with the hoster and clean up the maps there, if it is so important for you. The most people who play on the Race server now, didn't play Race for years, maybe it's just that this mod was overtaken by DDrace. Understandable that you want to save the maps, but trashing DDNet with crap, just to keep it, isn't the right way imo.

It is rather your personal fail, ofc sad for you, but not the false of DDNet's community.

Well...for me your pros are rather invalid.

No, they aren't invalid, but i think the most pros are still there if we would put the best Race maps on the Solo server.

PS: @Eryx: When the infection server was opened on DDNet GER, they were full for a few days. Take a look how many players they have now: Yep, almost no one. New things get a boost for beeing new, but if it isn't new anymore it can get boring very fastly.
