Suggestion, How to make people speedrun again?

i don't know if this was suggested before...

I saw that some players (dinner for example) wished that people would play for their rank/time and not for the points.
My idea is that you could reform the rank-points like this: not only the first 10 people get ranked. Rank one gets 1 points rank2 gets 2points and so on(rank=points), the player with the less points is the top ranked player. this way some players who never have a chance to get top 10 can get ranked too, and hopefully they are motivated to speedrun again.
only problem is when a player dont have finished a map, does he get ∞ points there?

Such a system was used on KoG, for an unfinished map you got 100 points, so this was also the highest rated rank.

I'm just going to speak for myself here, but making people speedrun maps seems wrong. You're unlikely to change the mindset of people by changing the point-system. I am speedrunning a map if I like it /feel like speedrunning it.

As I see it, your suggestion would even work against it. A lot of the out-of-top10-times cannot be called speedruns whatsoever (but you'd still get points for that).
Sure, a lot more people could get on the scoreboard, but competitiveness would decrease. (I'm just guessing here though!)

On another note: who takes a look on (team)rank points anyways?
I speedrun because I want to speedrun (having the top1 on certain maps feels good).

The points per finish thing already changed peoples mind from speedrunning to finishing.
maybe this will change it back :/

its just that you cant speedrun 2000 maps you dont have the time to spend 5 hours to speedrun a map becouse there is already a new one released

Actually we are developing a system what will reward a top rank on normal maps but will especcially reward speedrun maps¹ even better. We are NOT gonna remove the points for finishing maps. Ranks would just play a bigger role in the points system. Not like now where nobody care about rank points. Thats the basic idea. We are still figuring things out on if they would made things better or bad.

[1] Maps which are prefered by many players to be played over and over again to get a top rank. E.g. "spy" or "Care for your time"
