Map Testing Phase

Post by Silex »

Silex wrote:It's just the point that it don't comes to a end of the testing phase. Please think about something that leads to the end of the testing phase. Imo it's still a good idea to introduce a vote for 'ready'. Like 3 yes votes -> directly to planned releases.
I wrote this 1-2 days ago in a other topic (now here because i don't want to spam that one) and would like to read some other opinions about this idea. I am not really happy with the testing proceed atm. It's not needed that 20 people see a map for release.

Besides that such a vote-system would need a careful sorting of testers, it won't change anything as long as there is no one who takes care about releases in general. Currently there is only 1 admin ( - who is totally overwhelmed and prefers to focus on stuff like improving chat-messages).

So...who shall do that?
Even when Knight and I were active...there were only 3 releases per week, cause more was just not possible. (yeye, we know what Aoe critized and that he 'won' now...) After we left, aaa wanted to increase the amount of releases, but he fastly had to recognize that this isn't possible - especially alone - and that the technic guys are annoyed of too many releases. So he switched back to Knight and mine system for a week and then he just stopped completely; now it is about a release every 3 weeks (if at all xd).

Besides a guy who plans releases and another guy who does releases (first one doesn't exist, snd one only partially), you would also need someone who manages the group of Testers - for which you also won't find any reasonable person.
Soreu surely can't do that all alone, the other active guys were either bullied out or just lost the motivation, so again...who shall do that?

Maybe it would be better if some certain person would get that this situation is lost and that another certain person would finally stop jumping between heart and brain, then we could have a long-term plan for DDNet, which would make sure that the servers keep running, but ofc w/o new stuff. It would be even possible to make sure to have a release...let us say... at least every few weeks; but currently the guys who would need to do that are lost in their own minds.

I dont know anything about coding, but cant you make a program where you put in the map, than:"Category": moderate (example) , "stars": 3 (example) , mapper: "nameless tee", broadcast: "new map blablabla" and then press "release"...

It sounds like you have to do much to release one map.

This is what I meant at the end. HMH wrote all needed scripts, so you would just need a simple website and even people w/o technical knowledge can release maps.

As i said in a different topic that there are to less tester for the amount of maps we have (50+ and lets say 5active testers max)
So i have an idea to reduce the amount of maps.
What about an 1map rule per mapper = a single mapper can only have 1map in testing section after this map got released/declined he can post his maps.
Some mappers are allready doing this.
E.g. amol i know he has allready excast X and genericore x and he still only posts one map which is nice <3
I think corneum has also more then 1map he didnt posted if i remember correct.
I think this should be a rule because some people are spamming their maps and the sad thing is 95% of them get declined.
So the advantages of this rule is that the section isnt spammed with to mutch maps and some mappers will hopefully take more time for their maps.

On qshar.com they have two orders one named "creating new maps" and "testing new maps".
I think the idea of this is pretty simple and self explanatory. So why we dont cover this idea and split the maps to focus on maps which are in the testing process further than the other. There are many bugs a new mapper couldn't unterstand. The maps of new mapper get also often declined but they stay for weeks in the testing order. So it would be nice if new maps with bunch of bugs would get first to the creating and get critic and fixed. After that they go up to the testing order where you can discuss about difficulty and find the last bugs in the maps. Or just create a new order just for guys with a little base of mapping knowledge.

The main problem is that there are no active testers, not the system
There are no tests witout testers...

There are active testers, who look for bugs, who suggest difficulty..
That is our job you know (at least mine) and not to be pro at mapping and have extreme knowledge.
i exist
so do you
