Client crash on exit

Post by Bugsy* »

So ever since I formatted PC the client will run up until i want to close it then it will stop responding and not save any of my preferences so I would need to configure everything from scratch...
No other versions of the client fix the problem but I can run the old Teeworlds but then I cant do any of the dummy things...
Windows x64
Thanks

Try running it from a cmd window, what's the last output? Maybe you just have no write permissions, try running it as admin to make sure that's not it.

The running as admin isn't the problem but i tried it anyway.. didn't work :(
what do you mean running it from a cmd window?
also the black cmd window that used to run with the old teeworlds doesn't appear when i minimize ddnet client. Is that alright still? I am assuming that's where the last output will appear?
Sorry, i'm not really a computer expert
Thanks

Yeah, we disabled the black cmd window. In the directory where you have DDNet.exe:
If you have Windows Vista or later, right-click on the directory icon in Explorer while holding the Shift key, and then click on the "Open command window here" context menu option.

If you're already in the directory you want, you can:

Hold down Shift when opening the Explorer File menu, then click on "Open command window here". If you can't see the menu bar, press Alt-Shift-F - Alt-F to open the File menu, plus Shift.
Shift-right-click on the background of the Explorer window, then click on "Open command window here". (recommended by Kate in the comments)

Then in the cmd window write "DDNet"

Thanks Deen
Unfortunately the last few lines are only the binds to the chat which seem fine and no new lines appear after the client crashes...
I should add that the client only crashes after i click yes to quitting.

I was looking through the cmd and these lines all said "no such command" under "executing settings.cfg"
cl_version_server
gfx_clear
gfx_asyncrender
gfx_threded

Those supposed to say that? I asked my friend to do the same and he doesn't get those lines.

Yeah, we got rid of those. Try removing the config_directory entirely, settings.cfg, try creating a settings_ddnet.cfg in the same location maybe.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by the config directory entirely but i deleted "config_directory.bat" and the "settings.cfg" in the app data file for teeworlds (the only one i could find)
I also created the "settings_ddnet.cfg" file in the DDNet directory with nothing in it? Must i Manually type in all the binds? :\
Then I launched the client and tried to close it again with no success.

Is there any way for me to save all the new binds like for dummy control outside of the game? then I dont care about the crashing problem so long as it remembers all of my settings every time i launch it.

Where the settings.cfg is you can create a settings_ddnet.cfg with the binds in there, see f1, dump_binds. Would still be much better if someone could figure out what's going wrong.
