No more novice?

Post by Ñı©Ø »

I see in the map testing section no novices... I guess everybody wants to map brutal and moderate maps, but if we don't give to the noob players novice maps they won't appreciate ddnet so much... what do you think, should we make more novices maps?

There are alot of novice maps and i think often there are running novice servers. (e.g. right now there is a Server with a Kobra 3 and 18 players)

no new novice map don't mean that we can't attract new players, but

maybe we need better novice maps, i think its hard to make a good novice map :s

I could map in my free time but I'm not such a great mapper myself... I mean I feel like that for novice maps we should do that even if my map doesn't have any special parts and only boring and well known drag parts it should be released anyway because the noobs need those maps... I think of Around Da Year, my map that got rejected a lot of time ago because it hadn't good parts only well-known ones... I worked hard on that map too...

There are over 100 novice maps. This amount is enough to play every standard part a few times and become good enough for Moderate. Just spamming more of the standard parts won't make anyone play these maps more.

There are two types of Novice players:
- Evernoob: Plays Kobra for his lifetime and isn't even interested in other maps.
- Ambitious: Wants to become good as quickly as possible --> isn't interested in playing the same part 100 times.

What we rather need are a few very good maps which are enjoyable for beginners and open up the doors to Moderate for them, not a mass of copy & paste parts.

Yes, but if we release more novice maps there are more active novice servers, so it is easier to attract newbies since they have more servers to play (so it is at least something).
Well, besides that, i agree with you hi_leute_gll...

I agree with you too hi_leute_gll, but I wasn't talking about copy & paste... Novices are hard maps to map because you can't think too much outside the box because they have to stay easy... I just want to say that at this point in time are really few the maps that get tested in ddnet and then get released...

Welf, I'd my pleasure to look at that map once again!

Lol we released like maps everyday in december, and are testing alot atm. There are just not many releasable maps, because the mappers are inactive. I can guarantee you that you can get a map released within a week, if you are an active mapper.
