DDnet maps

Post by Forris »

Hey Guys,
In the last days i used to finish many moderate maps and I have to say, that some of them were really good and some were just crap.
The crappy maps are always from the same mappers. They're nice guys, but they just map maps, that arent fun, which is one of the mapper rules.
In my opinion the maps should be checked more, when they're tested.

Here is a list of mappers, that me and others(maptesters included) think, that produce 80% bullshit.
I dont wanna insult them or sth like that.We just think, that these maps aren't fun!(Please don't understand it wrong)

For my opinion i just have to say a thing; the koule maps ( novice ) don't respect the mappers rules. They are really not large. Why they are on ddnet?

It's still the same generell discussion:
Should we release every map wich is not bad or just every map that is really good?

I don't want to talk about the single names, not all of them creates total crap and you could add other names, too. Pic single people out isn't fair, i think.

Some people say that they want every map where they can get points to be released. Other ones are bored of tons of average maps. You can't handle with this maps in a way all people are happy. Only possibility would be an own server for very good maps, but no, it isn't the sense of DDNet, i think. In my opinion DDNet should give us a compilation of the best maps of each server. Maps wich are fun and nice to play and maps people enjoy. And not maps wich needs to be on "worse" Server, cause they are to bad.

I think many people know that i often decline maps. But i don't do it, cause i hate single mapper or something like this. I do it mostly, cause they are just not bad, but not really good. Other tester accept all maps wich are playable. Other tester are saying nothing about this point, cause they don't want flame.

The best thing would be a basic decision how good a map hast to be for a release. Ofc not all will be happy with it, but maybe the
majority of players would do.

Okay, first off.

1. Should ddnet have old maps just for nostalgia? If yes, they may not comply to ideal ddnet rules.

2. Fun is relative. I find maps that were rejected for ddnet very fun, and maps that were passed not fun. How can we get a good judge of fun? One reason, imo, is ddnet testers are not really average or novice skilled players, and as old crusty pros have a more definite sense of what they like.

If we simply added more maps, statistically it is more likely that more people would find more fun maps to play.
